Software

Tota Scriptura is powered by a bespoke artisanal handcrafted static site generator written in JavaScript, executed in the Node.js runtime, and built and deployed to GitHub Pages via GitHub Actions. Node package dependencies include markdown-it for Markdown parsing, gray-matter for YAML front-matter extraction, and EJS for templating.

Typeface and typography

Tota Scripura is presented in Erik Spiekermann’s distinguished humanist typefaces FF Meta Serif and FF Meta, courtesy of the awesome Adobe Fonts web font service. Through the wonders of modern CSS and OpenType, it’s got old style numbers, ligatures, and real small caps. Butterick would be proud.

Images used throughout the site are screenshots from my favorite video game, “The Witness”, by Thekla, Inc.

Icons

Pictograms used throughout the interface are from the attractive and versatile Entypo icon font by Daniel Bruce. They are distributed under the Creative Commons Attribution 3.0 License and the SIL Open Font License.

Bible passages

Tota Scriptura uses the Biblia web service from Logos Bible Software. Scripture references are magically auto-hyperlinked by the amazing Logos Reftagger.
