Software

Tota Scriptura is powered by a bespoke artisanal handcrafted static site generator written in JavaScript, executed in the Node.js runtime, and built and deployed to GitHub Pages via GitHub Actions. Node package dependencies include markdown-it for Markdown parsing, yaml for YAML front-matter extraction, and ejs for EJS templating.

Typeface and typography

Tota Scriptura is presented in free and open-source fonts, the distinguished Transitional serif Source Serif created by Frank Grießhammer for Adobe Systems and Erik Spiekermann’s whimsical humanist Fira Sans designed for the Mozilla Foundation. Google’s Noto font family developed by Steve Matteson is used sparingly as a fallback for missing Greek and Hebrew characters. Through the wonders of modern CSS and OpenType features, the site has old-style numbers, ligatures, and true small caps. Butterick would be proud.

Images used throughout the site are screenshots from my favorite video game, “The Witness”, by Thekla, Inc.

Icons

Pictograms used throughout the interface are from the attractive and versatile Font Awesome Pro icon library by Fonticons, Inc. They are used under the Font Awesome Pro License.

Scripture references throughout Tota Scriptura are linked to the matchless Logos Bible Software. Links should open in the native application if you have it installed or the web app in your browser if you don’t.
