Idols are irrational for several reasons

1. Making an image or likeness of the true God is impossible because he is invisible (Isa 40:18–28).
2. Making images of any gods other than the true God is pointless because they are not real gods (Isa 45:5–6; 1Co 8:4–6).
3. Worshipping an idol is downright foolish because it is something you made with your own hands, and you probably used some of the raw materials for some other mundane or even profane purpose (Isa 44:16–18; Hab 2:18–20).
