Talk:Deception

Disclaimer

This is a controversial subject. God is omnibenevolent, yet omniscient and omnipotent. Evil exists in the world, and, as I see it, the only way that’s possible is if God somehow ordained evil to be, yet without sinning himself.

These passages (on the topic page) seem to suggest that God has lied, deceived, and kept secret things hidden from men’s understanding. To be faithful to all of God’s word, we must affirm that somehow he did these things and yet without sin. — Avatar.png 15:45, 24 March 2011 (UTC)

Helpful article

I found the following article helpful in compiling this topic: Does God deceive people?. Disclaimer: I don’t know anything about Jim McGuiggan; I just know this one article was helpful to me. — Avatar.png 15:40, 24 March 2011 (UTC)

Blog article that got me thinking

These ideas had been bouncing around in my head for a while (principally from discovering 2Th 2:11), but this blog post finally got me thinking about creating a topic here: Mormon Coffee › From the Mailbag (3/8/11). — Avatar.png 16:06, 24 March 2011 (UTC)

What about 1 Kings 13?

Is 1Ki 13 another example of God putting a lie in the mouth of a prophet? Need to study this story in a couple different translations and consult a commentary or two. — Avatar.png Joey 03:47, 25 June 2011 (UTC)
