The Reformation redefined apostolicity or apostolic authority as following the teaching of the apostles rather than having authority delegated from the apostles (i.e. apostolic succession).

When I was reading 2Ti 4:1–8 this morning it struck me that the thing the original apostles were most concerned to maintain was not the passing on of their authority by successive delegation, but the passing on of their apostolic message. The apostasy they were so concerned to prevent would have consisted in the loss of sound teaching and doctrine, not the loss of their authority through failure to delegate it.

I’m not sure what this says about how we should define apostolicity, but it seems to me to favor the Reformed view.
