Definite atonement addresses the intent and scope of the atoning death of Christ. It maintains that Christ suffered for sin and secured redemption only for those elected by God to salvation. For a general overview of the atonement, see atonement.

Ro 5:18; 1Co 15:22; 2Co 5:14–15; 1Ti 2:5–6; 4:10; Tit 2:11; Heb 2:9

God desires salvation of all

Some for whom Christ died may not ultimately be saved

Ac 20:28–30; Ro 14:15; 1Co 8:11; Heb 10:29; 2Pe 2:1

Counter-objections

“World” doesn't always mean everyone in the world

“All” or “every” (gr. pas) can be distributive (i.e., “every kind”)

Mt 4:23 (also Mk 9:35; 10:1); Lk 11:42
