Parallelism in Revelation
Revelation can be divided into seven sections that recapitulate the same general time period and events. The parallel sections are:[1]
- The seven lampstands (ch. 1–3)
- The seven seals (ch. 4–7)
- The seven trumpets (ch. 8–11)
- The persecuting dragon (ch. 12–14)
- The seven bowls (ch. 15–16)
- The fall of Babylon (ch. 17–19)
- The great consummation (ch. 20–22)
Each parallel section spans the entire church age from the first coming to the second coming of Christ. Some sections go beyond the second coming to describe the final states of the reprobate and the redeemed. Notable parallels are given below:
